Can I bring a plus 1?
Unfortunately, due to budget and space limitations, we simply can't afford for all of our lovely guests to bring a guest of their own. Therefore, we regretfully our guests to please not bring a plus one, unless they are specifically named on the invitation. Thank you so much for understanding!
How to get there?
There are multiple ways of traveling to the North East of England. For our American guests, flying will be the easiest option. You can fly to any of the major London Airports and get a connecting flight to Newcastle airport. Alternatively, you can take the train up North from London Kings Cross if you want the more scenic route through the english countryside. You can also fly into Edinburgh or Manchester and take connecting trains.
Are there direct flights to newcastle?
Typically, no. However Jet 2 run seasonal direct flights during the holidays and since we are having a winter wedding, you might get lucky! Equally, United fly direct to Edinburgh, Scotland and you can very easily train or drive to the North East from there! All major Airlines fly to London where you can easily get a puddle jumper to the North.
I made it to the airport/ train station-what now?
Uber is available in the major cities and in the Consett area taxis are common. You could call a local taxi rank. If you let us know when you are getting in we can come and get you in a pinch! I would recommend renting a car for your trip if possible as it will give you more freedom to explore the wild english countryside!
Rental car info
We would highly recommend renting a car as Ubers are hard to come by. You can arrange to pick up a rental car at Newcastle airport. Remember in the UK we drive on the other side of the road! Also, its worth mentioning that there are lots or dark, windy country roads and it will be winter. Closer to the time we will check in with the rental car drivers to chat about the country roads and what you can expect.
Shall I come for the weekend or a longer vacation?
Most of our guests are planning on having an extended stay in the UK. It is east to travel to Scotland, London and Ireland from any of the major hubs if you are planning on a Heritage trip!
What will the weather be like?
The North East can get chilly in December and very windy. Prepare for potential snow but isn't a guarantee.
What to do?
Northumberland is an incredibly historical and beautiful part of the world. The surrounding areas include heritage country sights, Castles, Cathedrals, shopping and sighseeing galore. We are a stones throw from Hadrians Wall and some incredible hikes and walks. See the travel section for more info!
I cant make it!
Thats totally fine, we understand that it isnt always an option for people to travel to the UK for a wedding. If you are having issues planning or struggling to figure out expenses-please reach out- we might be able to help you get the best bang for your buck!
What are the nearest towns or cities to Healey Barn and the Local hotels?
There are a few small villages and towns. The closest is Castleside Village and Consett (Billies hometown). You will also be a short drive from Corbridge and Hexham. Equally you are a short car ride away from Newcastle Upon Tyne and Durham.
What is the Dress code?
Formal, Black tie optional. Dress to impress!
How will we get to and from the venue?
We will be providing shuttles to and from the venue on the day of the Wedding and the night before for the welcome drinks.
Are there any sporting events happening?
Yes! Newcastle play Liverpool on December 4th at St. James Park.
For the reception guests-what can we expect?
To our lovely friends joining us in the evening portion of the celebrations-our reception will begin at 7pm after the ceremony and dinner have taken place. There will be a live band, cake, plenty of booze and dancing and a very special late night performance! Can’t wait to see you!
